I need to find a fiction poem for my English 132 class. I also need 2 reviews about this poem because I need to write a paper about this.
If you wanted famous older (and out-of-copyright) poems like William Blake’s “The Tyger”, Emily Dickinson’s “130: These are the days when Birds come back”, or “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer, check out Project Gutenberg online or Bartleby, both freely available online.
These types of poems have advantages in that they are both much easier to obtain and have more critical literature available on them. Try JSTOR, ProQuest Literature and Language, Literature Resource Center, or MLA International Bibliography with a search like:
dickinson AND birds come back
Examples of articles in these databases that deal with the specific poems mentioned above include:
Blake’s ‘Tyger’ as Miltonic Beast by Paul Miner
Kilmer’s ‘Trees’ by Burton Pollin
Delight Deterred by Retrospect: Emily Dickinson's Late-Summer Poems by Ernest Sandeen
For more recent poems by contemporary poets, check out our ebooks in collections like eBrary
(start with a search like: poetry anthology). It has a number of volumes of poetry, as well as poetry criticism (including on some of those out-of-copyright ones listed above, like Poetry of William Blake). Some volumes there include:
Intwasa Poetry by Jane Morris
Romantic Poetry by Angela Esterhammer
Modern English War Poetry by Tim Kendall
Selection of Modern Italian Poetry in Translation by Roberta Payne
Inclined to Speak: An Anthology of Contemporary Arab American Poetry by Hayan Charara
The above databases are good for these as well, although JSTOR will not have the most recent works.
Let me know if I can be of any help in your search.
